A GROWING IDEA FOR THE FUTURE

At the beginning of May 2016, we at Desert Greens H2o began erecting our flagship, broad-scale hydroponic greenhouse, which has the capacity to redefine the current global food paradigm. Tom Blount, systems designer and grower, has invested over 10 years perfecting a hydroponic grow system with a unique height and pitch design that exponentially reduces the carbon footprint of any traditional soil-grow or existing hydroponic application. As an example, North Carolina State University claims that one acre of land is required in a traditional soil-grow to produce 26,000 heads of small lettuce per full harvest; whereas, our application will produce 36,450 heads of lettuce per full harvest. In addition, traditional grows are limited by seasonal conditions which allow for a maximum of 2-3 harvests per year; whereas, we have the ability to grow year-round with 12 harvests per year. The increased yield is staggering. Desert Greens H2oalso utilizes a closed-loop system which expresses a 90+% water savings over traditional soil grows. Our next-generation grow systems are replicable for commercial applications, ensuring that a better tasting, nutrient laden product can be grown consistently in a large area.

In the United States, there is a dire need to utilize existing technologies that have the capacity to drastically change and improve the current food supply chain. The declining overall health of Americans can be directly linked to unnatural farming practices employed by the existing profit-motivated, industrialized agricultural system. Obesity and diabetes are only two of the numerous diet-related ailments that many link to current food sources. The use of chemicals, pesticides and genetic modification has resulted in flavorless, nutrient-poor, unsafe products that are valueless imitations of the food that human beings require.

It is also important to understand that the present food distribution network, including; unripe, chemical harvesting and vacuum refrigeration, combined with international and cross-country transport of goods, focus primarily on maintaining the appearance of food as opposed to the quality. On average, food products that are available have lost over 60% of their original nutritional value by the time that it reaches market shelves.

Both farming practices and food distribution systems have given rise to concerns regarding the safety of American food sources, which in turn has led to a greater demand for locally grown crops. FDA food safety inspections have been reduced by 80% over the last three decades, and the resultant drop in the level of nutritional, safe food is alarming. Southern Nevada has an opportunity to change the existing system that promotes “food deserts”. Desert Greens H2o has proprietary growing systems that are capable of meeting the fresh food needs of Southern Nevada, and can affordably supply the entire socio-economic spectrum of our community. A diet based on processed foods is not in America’s best interest. A nation is judged by the standard it allows its lowest rung to exist at, let’s make this important change in education, and growing and distribution practices to raise America once again to the pinnacle of global leadership.

People are demanding fresh, affordable food that is higher in nutritional content with unparalleled flavor profiles. Southern Nevada faces both land and water resource challenges. Farmable land must be amended to raise it to a viable growing medium, and available land is continually dwindling via urban growth. Numerous water quality and water shortage issues plague our community, as well. Desert Greens H2o, with proprietary, advanced hydroponic methodologies has the ability to revolutionize the way food is grown locally.

Our next-generation, recirculating, closed-system grow operation provides solutions for the problems that growers in Nevada face, along with the capacity to further our research in our effort to develop eco-reconstituting technology. Our utilization of an interdependent, soilless system uses 90% less water than traditional farming. Reusing and recirculating the minerals, nutrients and water produces healthier, cleaner crops. Desert Greens H2o’s use of vertical space exponentially increases crop yield, up to a 75% increase (depending on the crop) to that of soil cultivation, eliminating the need for large plots of land.

Competitive Advantages of Desert Greens H2o, Hydroponic Grow Systems Over Current Hydroponic Farming Approaches

Our vertical grow units, which utilize a unique height and pitch design, produce four to six times the crop yield of current standard hydroponic greenhouses. Our grow units allow for the utilization of the entire length, width and height of the greenhouse, which exponentially increases both crop size and harvestable plant material. As an example:

Our proprietary water delivery system combines the exact amount of fresh oxygen, water and nutrients to each plant, ensuring that the plant has the resources to actualize 100% of its DNA potential. Our oxygenated, nutrient water is directly administered to the root system via a proprietary process which produces intake molecules for the plant that range from 3 to 5 microns in size, and allow for maximum penetration, uptake and assimilation of nutrients throughout the plant.

Our water filtration system eliminates all bacteria, while maintaining all of the vital minerals. The filtered, positively charged water carries the nutrients far more efficiently to the plants than standard hydroponic farming. Another benefit of the elimination of harmful water elements is a cleaner product, with less risk of crop contamination or failure.

Our nutrient recipes are created using only the highest quality, pharmaceutical-grade compounds, and zero filler’s. The nutrient line consists of four primary mixes that target maximizing each stage of plant growth: root, leaf, flower and fruit. Each of the primary recipes, contain formula variances to allow for the differing needs of a multitude of crops. In other words, “One nutrient does not fit all”. Part of our individualized approach to growing also includes varying lengths of “active” nutrient delivery time for the ever-changing needs of the specific species; tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and peppers, to cite a few, all have different nutrient requirements for different lengths of time.

Our proprietary design system uses separate reservoirs for varying crops. The number of reservoirs is determined by the crops chosen. The entire greenhouse is created to house a multi-crop grow as opposed to a mono-crop grow. Our reservoir model allows us flexibility and the capacity to isolate, monitor and maintain crops, while increasing plant yield.

Our plant placement design, which houses canopy plants throughout the greenhouse, utilizes traditionally unused space that current hydroponic greenhouses are not employing. The canopy plants create shade for crops that enjoy less light, and they also influence temperature variances. Our grow setting provides the optimum parameters for maximum yield in a multi-crop greenhouse.
